Why Choose Axminster?

Royal Thai has been making carpets for decades, and we have come to specialize in, and rely on, the long-lasting properties and endless potential of Axminster carpets. Axminster’s singular weaving process creates durable carpets that offer more variety in color and pattern than any other process.

What’s in a name?

Axminster is one of the best-known names in carpets. Axminster carpets were first produced in the English town of Axminster in the 18th century. Today the word Axminster describes a specific type of woven carpet produced on either spool Axminster or gripper Axminster looms. The name has come to refer to the product— just as the word china now refers to porcelain or tableware manufactured anywhere, not just China.

Axminster is one of the most durable types of carpets in the market because the pile yarn and backing yarns are interwoven forming an extremely stable construction allowing these carpets to stand up to heavy use while retaining its pattern and color. Even after years of use, it will retain design definition and colors will still be vibrant.

Our Axminster is offered in blends of premium wool and nylon, 100% nylon 6.6 and solution dyed nylon: all sturdy and stylish, they have been designed and engineered specifically for any project. In addition, our Axminster scores points for acoustical control, indoor air quality, easy and reduced maintenance, and longevity, all which add up to maximum return on investment for our clients.

AXMINSTER DESIGN

The Axminster weaving process offers infinite possibilities of pattern and colour. When a client requires a custom carpet, interior designers and architects work with our design studios to transform the client’s concept into an Axminster carpet that works for their venue and project. Our designers also have access to an archive of over 10,000 patterns for inspiration. Designs are created on computers and woven by electronic jacquard Axminster looms. Limitless colour and new pattern options are possible because yarn is custom dyed and up to twelve colours can be woven into any one design.

When stepping onto an Axminster you can feel the luxury of a woven carpet. It is softer, your footsteps are muffled and the carpet pile springs back as if you were never there. The more densely a carpet is woven the plusher it feels underfoot. All of our Axminster carpets have a pitch of seven, which means that there are seven tufts per inch inserted across the width of every carpet.

Lengthways the number of rows of pile yarn per inch can vary between seven and twelve. The higher the row count, the more yarn is used, the more tufts per inch, the ‘heavier’ the carpet is and the more luxurious it feels.

We use a blend of globally sourced premier wools that provide both softness and resilience. The end-use of the carpet determines the number of rows per inch and the most suitable pile height.

Although Axminster is a machine-woven carpet, we are able to offer clients the option of Accent Textures the to give the ultimate customised finish.

All these elements—from flooring selection to design—coming together requires Royal Thai to ensure flawless, long-lasting execution.
